Explore SFSU: Admitted Students Day is an opportunity for admitted students and their families to visit campus, explore their prospective departments, and meet faculty and staff.

The Department of Biology will offer building tours, a meet and greet with faculty, and information about our curriculum, research, and the opportunities a biology major affords. Visit the Prospective Students page for more details.

If you are an admitted or prospective student, you can register for the campus-wide event here. Among the many activities planned, you can tour the residence halls and dining facilities, explore campus, participate in activities in the main quad throughout the day, and visit us in Hensill Hall. We will be open during the afternoon "Explore your College and Department" session.

The images in the banner above showcase organisms actively studied within our department. At Explore SFSU on April 11, you’ll get an inside look at how these species are investigated in our Biology Department’s research labs.

As an undergraduate in Biology at SFSU, you can move beyond the classroom and gain hands-on research experience. Through BURP (Biology Undergraduate Research Program), students participate in original research alongside faculty. This means you could be working directly with organisms like these, including animals, plants, fungi, and microorganisms, in our labs.

From bacterial protein synthesis to the cellular structures that make vision possible, and from tracking how diseases move through ecosystems to understanding how plants stabilize soil, our research spans every scale of life. We study interactions between plants and animals and investigate how organisms evolve across time and space. The Biology Department is home to a wide range of research programs and offers many ways to get involved and make discoveries of your own.
