I am broadly interested in the evolution of animal behavior and its underlying neural mechanisms. My research focuses on understanding the factors that shape the evolution of animal communication systems. In my lab, we integrate behavioral, ecological, physiological and anatomical studies under a compartive framework to investigate the mechanisms, function and evolution of signal processing mechanisms. Most of our work focuses on the auditory system and uses North American treefrogs and songbirds as animal models.
